what you get

An accurate calculation
Planet positions, house cusps and the aspects between them. The engine is checked against Swiss Ephemeris — the library behind astro.com — on 432 charts from 1850 to 2050. You can compare the numbers with any other calculation: that is the point.
Plain-language notes
Every planet, house and aspect comes with a sentence or two on what it means, without jargon. The houses show what rules each area of your life and where that ruler went.
Works without a birth time
If you do not know your time of birth, the chart is still calculated: planets in signs and the aspects between them. We say plainly what cannot be known without the time.

how to calculate a birth chart

You need three things, and each matters in its own way.

Date of birth sets the positions of the planets. It is required, and on its own it is already enough to see which signs the planets are in and which angles they form.

Time of birth determines the houses — twelve areas of life — and the axes of the chart. The Moon moves about one degree every two hours, so an error of an hour is already noticeable. If you do not know the time, tick “time unknown”: the chart will be calculated without houses, and we will say clearly what is approximate.

Place of birth is needed for the houses and for converting local time to universal time. Just start typing the name of the city — the coordinates and time zone are filled in automatically, including the daylight saving rules in force that year.

Everything else — house system, type of lunar nodes, minor aspects — is already set up the way it is usually done in Western astrology. Change it only if you know why.
